One very prominent part of the reading stuck out to me. It discussed how people who are inexperienced in a field will not gain the full understanding and knowledge that can be obtained. I believe that this is the reason why going to medical school is so important. You simply cannot understand all of the complexities of the human body without dedicating an enormous amount of time to the subject. Furthermore, the different opinions of what happiness is really grabbed my attention. This is due to the fact that I continually contemplate what it means to be happy. Working hard in school to be successful, is that what makes me happy? Or perhaps it is marrying the love of my life, and having a family that I can make memories with? Maybe it is to become famous in some rare field that myself and only a few others can truly appreciate? I think that I continuously search for happiness through obtaining more knowledge, business connections, and achievements, when in reality, I need to be appreciative of the present and not worry so much about the future. I think that the final good that most people are trying to find in the life is happiness. It seems to fit what the reading describes as “without qualification that which is always desirable in itself and never for the sake of something else.” With that being said, this reading brings together what the ideas of goodness and happiness truly mean, and I think that I am continuously trying to figure out what they mean every single day.
