When comparing Darwin’s obituary to my picked out one, I noticed several differences. First off, I decided to select Gregor Mendel’s obituary because he was another significant scientist roughly around the same time as Darwin. Both obituaries discuss the accomplishments of each scientist. However, the main difference that I noticed was that Darwin impacted many more individuals with his research outside of the scientific community compared to Mendel. Furthermore, Darwin’s work was recognized while he was living, which is in direct contrast to Mendel’s work where he was not acknowledged until he was long deceased. If I were to sit down with any scientists for dinner, I would undoubtedly choose Darwin. His composure outside of his scientific research, to find answers for the improvement of society rather than just for scientific advancement, was truly inspiring. In closing, both obituaries touch on the accomplishments and achievements of each scientist, but Darwin’s significantly out matches Mendel’s obituary in how impactful he was towards everyday society.
